"The best laid plans of mice and men . . ."
Oh, well. At least I seriously thought about being consistent with my blogging. Atlanta turned out to hold little opportunity for written musings or observations, and I have been grievously unfaithful in recording my thoughts since returning to San Antonio. But I move on.
Lately I have been giving a great deal of consideration to the tremendous responsibility God has given His creatures. What is this responsibility? The wise use of our time.
Yes, the maxim our mothers faithfully doled out day after day was, and remains, true: "Use your time wisely." God has bestowed upon each of us a set number of days. None of us know when our time to leave this earth shall arrive. None of us know how long we shall enjoy the good physical health we presently have, to whatever extent that good health may be. None of us know where God will lead us next, or for what "length of days" He has decreed us to perform the tasks we daily undertake. Wisely using our time is imperative.
Because we are fallen creatures, we are ever subject to the temptation to misuse and pervert God's blessings. One of God's greatest blessings and gifts to us is Time. Therefore, it is time that we misappropriate so often for our personal pleasure and enjoyment. This sin of "wasting" Time is grievous to our Lord, and He will one day receive from us an account of how our hours were spent, good and bad.
Although the concept of using our time wisely is far from new, 2 Peter 1:12 speaks of the necessity of reminding ourselves to do that which is right:
"Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these
things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth."
Therefore take hold of Time, that precious gift of God, and employ it in the service of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
