...And the Cardinals are waiting at the end of the "Wild Card Road" I guess the playoffs are still fun, even if you go 0 and 4 like the Cards last year.
Tim: It must be love as I packed all those baseball cards and articles Dad has let you keep throughout the years. I did have a moments temptation to do a Grandmom Ruth, but I refrained myself and worked diligently in a very hot attic.
Maybe you can treat me to an icecream when I finally get to the lonestar state!
To all you who root for division leading teams: Enjoy your boasting while it lasts. Because I'd like one of you to name the last time that a team won a division and then won the World Series?
The last team to win a World Series after having won a division was the California Angels in 2001. There has been 10 Series since the wild card was introduced. The divisional leaders have won 6 times and the wild card teams have won 4. That equates to a .600 winning percentage. I'll continue to root for my division leading St. Louis Cardinals. I must give anonymous some credit for seeking to find an edge but all in all, over time, the best teams usually win. This is not to say that wild card teams are second class. I would accept a back door invitation to the playoffs any day.
Correction: The Arizona Diamondbacks won the 2001 World Series not the Angels. I would like to say I made this mistake in order that Tim could receive 2 comments, but that would not be the truth.
Phillies playoff baseball in October is what I seek, be it by winning the NL Wild Card or the NL East Division. Either way, I do not forsee the Cardinals posing too difficult of a problem to surmount when the time comes.

The Cards lost today, by the way. Phils won.
